It has been almost 30 years since I opened The Cat Doctor on June 13, 1988. A “feline exclusive” practice was still a new concept, and The Cat Doctor was the first cat-only veterinary practice in the state of Maine. I have learned so much over the years.
I am especially grateful for the opportunity to have experienced the wisdom of cats. I truly believe that the more we understand how to live with happy healthy cats, the better we will become as human beings. It seems to me that the secrets for success are: to live a lifestyle suited to your temperament; to avoid conflict; when faced with anything new or confusing, stay in your thinking brain watch; and wait to act until you have a plan.
My current plans involve a change in location, and time to join with my parents as they downsize and prepare to enjoy the final season of their family saga. I will always be a veterinarian and will for the near future expect to fill in occasionally when Dr. Britton or Dr. Wright need to take some time off.
While it would be my inclination to quietly take my leave knowing that I am leaving the practice in good hands, I cannot go without thanking all of you; clients, patients, and staff members for your trust and patience. We have come a long way together.
