Aging Changes

Cats tend to grow old with grace.   It may seem that your cat's physical appearance has not changed noticeably in all the years you have known him.   However, if you look closely, you may see some differences.   Often our older cats seem to age very quickly when they do start to show signs of aging.   Weight loss, or at least a shift of weight ventrally, leaving the appearance of a "bony" spine, shoulders and hips is one of the most noticable changes.

Even more important than watching for changes in physical appearance, it is important to watch for changes in your cat's habits.   It is particularly helpful to be aware of appetite, water consumption, and elimination patterns.   A change in habits, may indicate a problem which we can manage most effectively if it is addressed early in its progression.
